HELI-SKIING


It wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration to say that I’ve dreamed of heli-skiing all my life (or, at least since I saw my first Warren Miller movie).  No lift lines, no crowds, untracked snow under my skis, and a helicopter waiting for me at the bottom of the run has been a part of my fantasies for decades.  When the opportunity arose, I read every word of the website for Canadian Mountain Holidays.  I had some doubts.  Am I too old?  Do I have enough experience?  Strong intermediate skiers were all they were asking for to participate in the Intro to Powder week.  The only age limit was on the lower end, mid-teens.  I qualify.


I usually don’t like e-mail advertisements from companies, but I devoured every picture and video CMH sent prior to the trip.  The organization impressed me from day one.  When I got off the plane in Calgary, all I had to do was simply walk across the street to the Delta Hotel, where representatives met us in the lobby and tagged our bags – a lighter than usual haul for skiing since they provide skis and poles.  The green tag read the Bugaboos in bold black letters; at this moment I didn’t known how much that tag would mean to me.
