The crescent and star represented the Ottoman Empire. It now represents Islam. The crescent and star appear on many national flags including Algeria, Azerbaijan, Comoros, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Turkey. When I combined and repeated the symbol it turned into a beautiful starburst.
