Sabrage was Napoleon's way of opening champagne bottles with a saber while on horseback. When done correctly not a drop of the bubbly spills and the top of the bottle is broken in a smooth cut that doesn't leave a shard of glass in the champagne.
In my novel GENEVA the protagonist, Karen Conner, is a competitive fencer. She not only finds sabrage fun she discovers she is capable of protecting herself with her saber.
Click below to watch when the CEO of Christofle, Nicolas Craft, certified me for sabrage. This event was held at the beauftiful San Ysidro Ranch and was hosted by Holly and Bob Murphy of Coast 2 Coast Collections. Next time while on horse back!
